Social movements: Linkage with local authorities

A model for this linkage is being developed in Brazil where culture of peace commissions have been established in the cities of Sao Paulo, Itepecirica da Serra, São José dos Campos and Diadema, all within the State of São Paulo, and Curitiba and Londrina in the state of Parana.

These commissions are composed of both legislators and representatives of civil society organizations. In this way, they integrate the initiatives and perspectives of government and civil society.

The Commission in Sao Paulo Comite Paulista para a Decada de Cultura de Paz, has distributed widely a guidebook (in Portuguese) on the work for peace by the various civil society organizations involved which is available for download from the Internet.
